    Geriatric care

Polypharmacy is also a big issue with the elderly. Also, the elderly do not feel pain as well as younger people. The elderly also have temperature regulation issues as well. Just a few more things to consider:)

How do you deal with dinosaurs?

As far as the helmet remark, we also are required to wear helmets and hi-viz jackets for MVA's or working on the roadway. AND we DO have a hook where they hang inside the rig where we can reach over our shoulder and grab on the way out the door.

    EMS Jacket

I do have the jacket you are referring to. We had the option at my service to get these jackets for work. We were at -20 degrees the other morning and the jacket kept me nice any warm. They are a very durable jacket. The drawback is getting blood on the fluorescent fabric. Blood will turn the...

    use of hand held devices

I guess I dont see the problem with this either. When we go on a run, the passenger pulls out the laptop and pulls the run up and starts to fill in some of the information. Then while we are transporting, whoever has patient care, which is usually the passenger, takes the laptop and continues...

    paid precepting??

I am a little confused on the question  If you are asking if you get paid to do clinical time, then I would think the answer to that would be a definite no. If you are talking about starting at a service and you will be training with a preceptor, then it will depend on your...

    Just took my NREMT-P Writen

Well, you should know by now if you made it or not. The test sucks and it leaves you feeling unsure whether you passed it or not. The best advice I can give is to check the NREMT and see if you passed. The number of questions you stopped at is irrelevant really.

    Stethescopes and mild hearing loss

I wear a hearing aid in one ear and have hearing loss in both ears. I finally went with a Littman 3100 and it has helped a ton. It works best in quieter environments, but still works well in the back of the truck. It was expensive, but allows me to do my job better than the standard stethoscopes.

    Practical

That is the worst part of the Practical exam at ALL levels, the verbalizing. In order to be sure the examiner knows you are confident in your skills, it is in your best interest to verbalize as much as you possibly can. I really feel that is the hardest part of Practical exams. It is easy to...

    Scared of being a Paramedic??

Well, currently I am riding as a third medic with an FTO for the service I have been with for 14 months. I did some clinical ride times here with people I have worked with for awhile as an EMT-Intermediate Technician. Now that I am "in charge" of the calls now, there is substantial more...

    New NREMT standards

That crazycajun is just worried that you had fewer questions than he did on the NREMT exams so he made this post to make sure you don't "lie" and say you only had 63 questions on your Basic exam or less than 80 on the Medic.:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

    Licensed in multiple states

Yep..I hold a WI and a MN license. Employer requires it since we have coverage areas in both states.

    Passing NREMT using EMT achieve?

We used Achieve in our medic class for quizzes and tests. I can't say that that alone is what enabled me to pass, but it helped. The Achieve questions were pretty good as far as the scenario type questioning. It doesn't hurt to use it for studying, but that alone will not guarantee you to pass.

    Usalsfyre's Train Wrecks #3

Tongue-in-cheek :P While I don't completely think it is a spontaneous pneumo, he fits the physical aspect of one. Hockey players have pretty good protective gear. Just because he took a hard shot, does not necessarily mean that is what caused his condition. Others have already mentioned...

    Airway Management in Seizures

The other airway concern I have that was not mentioned is suctioning. Most seizures I have encountered have a fair amount of drooling which I would prefer to not have them aspirate. You can still get a Yankauer tip on the side of the teeth if absolutely necessary.

    NREMT-B Practicals

LostViet408- I beleive you are mistaken. It is still ABC's. For CPR it is CAB. I also dont beleive the NREMT has made the switch to the 2010 AHA guidelines so it is still ABC on CPR as well until that change is official.

Starting IVs Next Week, any Tips?

Coban is definitely a great alternative. I like to have that or gauze on hand for the elderly with super thin skin. Getting tape back off of those frail arms can be painful.

I should have clarified, lol. EMT-National was the one I used :)

    FYI Regarding EMT-National testing site

I purchased the medic version for 1 month from this same site. My experience was, it was a waste of money. The questions they had on there were great if you were taking a Basic exam. The only good part about it was the NREMT Simulation Exams. But, even then, all it did was get you into the...
