Why Are 12-Leads Not Required For School Physicals

    That is a wonderful insult.

    Hate being called ambulance drivers!

Random person calling me an ambulance driver? I don't care.

    Lpn vs medic school

Why shouldn't someone challenge an exam? I looked through a CNA textbook and it seems that the position only requires certification for legal purposes. There's nothing in there that necessitates instruction.

    AAS degree or certificate

I agree with this, depending on the requirements of each program. Can you get good training as a medic with just the cert? (this really depends on your specific program) What works best for your long-term goals?

i was told i have to get a haircut?!?!?

Legally speaking, it's okay to have separate standards for male and female employees. Check out Jesperson vs. Harrah (that case makes me angry). Practically speaking, I don't know of anywhere non-military that has requirements for the hair length of nurses, respiratory therapists, etc...

    Not exactly EMS but..

Yes, exactly. The bystanders were awesome and heroic and I admire them greatly. I also get a laugh from the unexpectedness of them all walking away as soon as he's away from the car. It doesn't make the bystanders any less heroic, but it's funny in its unexpectedness. That said, I shared my...

    Not exactly EMS but..

Perhaps i'm jaded, but this video makes me giggle. It's surreal that they drag him out and then all just walk away. (it wouldn't be as funny if I didn't know that he was alive before I saw it) Edit: oh good, everyone else has the same response as me.

    Box truck vs moving truck

I'm moving, and I'm terrible with spacial issues. I can't find out how large a typical box ambulance is -- is it the same as a 10 foot moving truck? I'm trying to visualize and I'm fairly sure I could fit a desk, a couch, and a queen-sized bed in the back of a box truck..

    My BIGGEST pet peeves

There's a hospital in Louisville that dyed all of their sheets a non-white color and will NOT let EMS take them -- they claim they have a special elevated thread count. It may be simply apocryphal but I've had crews tell me of nurses making the ambulance turn around (with the pt still on board)...

Trial By Fire-- Medical students doing EMT school

What JPINV described is the "traditional" model: 2 year of didactic + 2 years of clinicals. There are a variety of new models being developed that are more like what you described. I know Indiana Univrsity has much more clinical integration throughout the program.

    My BIGGEST pet peeves

Working IFT during the winter, we would transfer the pt to the cot and the family would immediately go "He needs blankets! It's cold outside! Are you going to give him any blankets?!" Like... duh?

Trial By Fire-- Medical students doing EMT school

Are EMTs licensed or certified? It would be good if this school required students to become EMT-B certified & work a few shifts *before* attending the school, because as the dean says, it's better than "passive shadowing of doctors." I was avidly pre-med for awhile and read far too many...

    Losing weight without a gym

It's important to have a defined goal. What do you mean by in fire shape? Do you want to look a certain way? Do you need to pass a physical test? Do you want specific physical abilities? Not to put a damper on your enthusiasm, but you can only make so many changes in two months. It's great that...

    Ballroom

I love ballroom dancing, but I wish there were more opportunities to practice. I can clubbing and practice Latin every week, but I have to wait for a studio if I want to practice ballroom, and I only get to practice leading at school events.

EMT-B's that pass the test amaze me..

EMT textbooks are pretty Basic. I don't blame anyone for not reading it after class. I'm a grammar snob myself, but I don't remember any spelling questions on the NREMT, and I don't think there should be. EMT-B is not a very advanced job and I don't think it should be closed off to someone...

Is it common for MDs to have the ability to fire RNs?

What kind of underwear is best for EMS?

I wear a sports bra and regular undies. I don't remember the special name for them but they're cotton and not fancy. The equivalent of briefs, but they aren't uncomfy.
