    I'm moving to DC..questions

*bump* I was just wondering if anybody knew any private EMS/transport companies working out of DC that require NREMT only? Or if not, some recommendations for other private companies in the area (VA, MD).

    I'm moving to DC..questions

I understand it's pretty hard to get jobs in public EMS especially, I'm used to working in private EMS and don't mind it. I will definitely keep this in mind though, I'll look closely into D.C. and VA.

    I'm moving to DC..questions

Thanks a lot for this info, I always wondered about the NREMT because nobody ever talks about it here in Mass. Maybe I'll just get NREMT-B and then work in D.C., and I'll be able to easily get certifications for VA or MD. I'll figure it out now based on job availability.

    I'm moving to DC..questions

So I can't just get NREMT-B and be done, even if I challenge the test and get NREMT-B certified, I'd still have to apply for reciprocity in the specific state that I'd work for? Thanks

    I'm moving to DC..questions

Currently I'm a Massachusetts EMT-B. As many of you know MA does not get involved with NREMT so I don't know much about it. I'm moving to the DC area and planning to work there as an EMT-B. Now given the "tri-state" area along with NREMT I am confused as to what I should go for. I don't mind...

    Cataldo Ambulance

Sure why not. As long as you're committed to keeping a shift for 6-months.

    MA EMT patch

Here in Mass, normally the EMT patch is on the right shoulder. Cataldo is the only exception I know of, they have it on the left... just like Armstrong likes to be the only service in Mass with a rear-side window.

    Cataldo Ambulance

When I was getting hired they would not let you go per diem status unless you were with the company for a full year. They would never hire a fresh employee as per diem. Unfortunately I don't know the answer if this is still their policy, so please do not quote me on this. I do know that they...

    Cataldo Ambulance

When I did it, the HR interview was at the same time as the pre-employment test. If you pass the test, and the interview..then you have to schedule a time to get a physical done. The physical includes a drug test, hearing, sight, peripheral vision, color blind, lifting 120 pounds, and...

    GSW and backboard?

I can't come to a quick conclusion from the first two, but the abstract of the third one suggests that there is no point in backboarding a GSW pt.

    About AMR

When I got hired I had to go through a complete physical exam. They checked my vision (distance and colorblindness), my breathing capacity with a spirometer, hearing, physical agility and coordination, and drug testing. The drug test was a pee in the cup kind. They make you empty your pockets...

EMT-B/BLS care is there a point??

Basics are mostly used for transfers around here. Do you think it would be a good idea to have ALS trucks do transfers all day? Does dropping grandmas off at doctor appointments all day sound fun? Talk about a waste of money. Yeah most of these patients should probably take a cab or be driven by...

    GSW and backboard?

I had my first GSW two nights ago. When we arrived at scene we found the pt. sitting on the sidewalk. He had one shot, into his back (a few inches from the most prominent vertebra), with no exit wound. The entrance wound was barely bleeding. My partner wanted to longboard him but we decided...

    Temperature

We don't carry thermometers nor were we ever taught anything about specific temperatures. Just touch the forehead with the back of your gloved hand and decide cool, warm or hot, that's about as detailed as we get.

    blood glucose levels...

In MA it is required that all basic ambulances carry oral glucose (paste or tablets). However it is not mandatory that we have glucometers, but services can opt to have them available. I have never seen a basic use a glucometer, probably because of money and maintanence. Same thing with pulse...

    I have to peepee

The company I work for has a policy preventing any patients walking into the rig. If they can walk, they can walk to the stretcher and get strapped in, but certainly no one will be getting into the captain's chair and they even more certainly won't be able to stand up.

Newbie CA EMT Trainee Needs Assistance

You can usually get away with being an EMT-B by not really learning medical terminology or anything about the anatomy. You can just be one of those people who scoop and screw. There is a different kind of EMT-B, mostly those who wish to someday go to medic school, nursing school, or even med...

    1st day of Practical....

haha nice story. I think it's time you should start working out again and stop playing so many video games in your free time. A similar situation occured back when I was taking my class, it's so funny how serious everyone reacts. We also called a paramedic truck and I believe it turned out...
