I worked in Pittsburgh and I got my degree from the University of Pittsburgh (through the Center for Emergency Medicine). Phenomenal program with excellent staff/instruction. I'd rather not disclose the exact districts I worked in publicly, but statistically, we ran the most calls and had the...
Unfortunately, my move back to Los Angeles is mostly family related, so I didn't have the opportunity to fish for a job beforehand. I figured with my bachelor's degree in emergency medicine, and my experience in busy 911 districts, it wouldn't be too hard to find a job. I guess I was wrong!
Hey guys,
I'm a paramedic with a couple years of experience in 911/rescue EMS from out-of-state. I have a bachelor's degree from a distinguished university, and have been working as a Paramedic/FTO for the busiest district in the second busiest county in my state.
I'm moving back to LA pretty...
I haven't heard the best things about them. I've had everything from ride-alongs to EMTs to Paramedics tell me that their experience with Gerber has been less than pleasant.
I've had two EMT students that told me that Gerber never returned their calls for their required ride alongs. I've had...
Day trucks (or day cars/carts) usually refer to ambulances that staff employees with 10/12 hour shifts. These shifts are typically assigned during the day (hence the day part of the equation). These "day trucks" usually end up seeing more action, since they tend to be covering for other areas or...
Forgive if I'm wrong, didn't you just get your EMT-B a couple months ago? And didn't you just start this EMT job a week or two ago? Medic schools in my area require a minimum of 6 months of 911 experience for your application to be considered. I guess it's different in Missouri. Good luck though.
Hey Atro, if you don't mind sending me a message when you're done with class today that'd be great. I'd like to know how it went. Did "Insert Big Agency here" sponsor you?
I have been told that the "quick-dissolve" aspirin soaks into the blood stream within 3-5 minutes and becomes effective immediately after. I've also been told that normal "swallow the pill" aspirin takes 30-60 minutes to become effective in the blood stream.
Are you taking it tomorrow? If so, I may just see you there.
From what I hear it's pretty good. I've taken tons of these classes at UCLA, including Paramedic Prep and the facility/instructors have been fantastic.
- When you're sleeping, your body uses stores as energy. If you don't let your body use it's stores (by eating right before you sleep), you will just keep building up stores.
- Subdural bleeds, come on.
- Sugar... kids...
Who told you these things aren't true?
Everyone that's PMed me and responded to this thread asking for the list, I will send it to you when I get home (in a couple hours). Sorry for making you gents wait since yesterday!
I can personally tell you that CIEMT is a great program. I went through it myself to get my EMT certification, and the instructors there are fantastic. They are very keen on making sure you graduate as an EMT who really knows his/her stuff, so expect to learn a lot. I would not recommend signing...
If you spent the same amount of time reading a book that may be relevant to adding to your knowledge of emergency medicine, you would benefit from it greatly. Staring at a computer screen for 12 hours isn't healthy. If you would like me to recommend a few books for you to kill time (and improve...
As a student, you're not really allowed to complain about the way someone else does their job. I agree with everything JPINFV said.
The Gardena hospital is often overbooked with guests. This isn't to the fault of any of the staff there, as none of them put them in the hospital in the first...
19 year old male crashes his motorcycle riding Angeles Crest (A long windy mountain-like road, motorcyclist favorite). He's riding with his buddies, and he high-sides over one of the bikes (while it's low-siding) and is thrown into opposing traffic where his body is side swiped by opposing...
