Study your anatomy! I had no anatomy in high school and that killed me. If you already have your book, start skimming it and studying terms. Also, the other posts have great info also.
The town I live beside has ALS trucks for fire. Now, most these firefighters don't properly immobilize patients in severe car wrecks and there is a good portion that would refuse to get onto an ambulance. Most of my EMT-B class was guys wanting to be firefighters. You could tell the type of...
I am not using paramedic as a stepping stone unlike the 20 people in my EMT class. 18 of those people want to be firefighters and getting their EMT means they can get hired easier. One boy wants to be a doctor and one girl wants to be a nurse. No, unlike most those people, I actually want to...
That is what I figured. The 4 year program near me, has an endorsement for manager EMS programs. My mom also requires me to get a bachelors no matter what I do. And the place I am receiving my EMT-B, I would never get my paramedic there. O.O I'm already extremely frustrated with only a...
Depending you could work 24, 48 off. Or 8, 6, 12 hour shifts in some companies. It just depends. I'd say contact your local EMS agent for more information.
It is possible. My instructor has 3 kids and she and her husband was a paramedic/firefighter
In my ride time the other day, we went to Burger King and got a 50% discount. I just acted like it always happens to me but even the regular EMT was shocked about it.
The more I go through my EMT class, the more I love EMS. I honestly wasn't prepared for it. I just knew it would be medical and I could be camp EMT at 4-H camp with this certification. I didn't know there were different levels from EMT to paramedic. The second day of class I called my mom...
In the state of Kentucky, you have to have an EMS DNR which also has a slip of paper you can put in a plastic bracelet. If you don't have the DNR or right DNR, the EMS will have to do it.
In the large city next to me, the paramedic firefighters tend not to wear BSI or give ample C-spine to patients. One of the EMT students fractured a foot and had to have them called. She turns to her side, with her arm spewing blood and he didn't have gloves on or anything.
I am only half way through my training but can answer most those questions. It's in your book. Study a little more. Go back to your institution of learning and ask the instructors. I know mine would welcome someone asking something like that. Practice your test taking skills.
I work at a daycare and we don't have to have any cert. A parent actually gave us benedryl instead of an epi-pen since we'd have no access to the school's epi-pen.
Also, in my EMT class, we're being told in a lot of places in this state tend not to have epi-pens but have to draw out epi...
What annoys me about my EMT class is that I honestly believe there are less than 5 people who are in my class of 25 for EMS. Everyone else wants to eventually become a firefighter. There are some guys that hardly show up to class and others that are always late. It's obvious that most these...
What my plan with working EMS while being in college is based that part timers in the county I live in only have to work at least 24 hours a month. Therefore, I will probably just do 48 or so hours a month to make up not having my current job. You can check if you can do something like that.
