An open invitation to anyone: An outline of Cardiac A&P

Thanks for your input! I really do want to continue this guide! Sure enough, the excitement of life has been really taking a toll on my free time. Hopefully soon I can budget some to this project again!

    jaw thrust

If I remember right, he grabbed something from the nurse's hands or her pocket and just popped it in his mouth and closed it. It was like an automatic reaction... the first thing I thought of was to jaw thrust (head-tilt chin lift wouldn't have opened his mouth to get at the object, and I'm not...

    jaw thrust

Good question. It actually feels pretty natural. No clicking, snapping, or anything like that. I can't think of anybody where the jaw stayed open by itself. As far as needing a 2nd EMT to maintain the thrust.... for what purpose would you want to maintain it? Just because someone's mouth is...

    Station Gyms/Physicals

Pretty much everywhere I have worked considered on-site gyms an injury risk. What a shame, since proper exercise is much needed in our field. On another note, most health insurance plans offer discounts to gym memberships.

    jaw thrust

I frequently use the jaw thrust and it works great. THINKING about it creeps me out, but performing it is like 2nd nature, and it must be relatively painless because I've done it quite a few times on conscious patients (for instance, on a dementia person who put something in his mouth that...

    Hospital ORs suck!

Try getting to the OR early and start a conversation with a few of the anethesiologists. Find one that's willing to teach and has a good attitude.... preferably the head if possible. They'll be more willing to let you play and help you out a lot.

    Glucagon in beta blocker od

Glucagon is carried here in 1 mg single dose vials (powder). 911 trucks may carry significant restock, but less active units might only carry 2mg MAX. I am unfamiliar with its use in hypothermia.... however; larger doses (3 to 10 mg?????) are required for beta blocker reversal. I know...

    Hey all! I'm still here!

I've been soo busy the last 2 months or so. Hopefully I'll find time to come and participate again. In the meantime, I am taking a new certification exam today (CCT - Cert. Cardiographic Technician). If anyone has taken this exam, send me a pm please since I still have a few q's. Thanks...

Stopping at another scene with a patient on board

I hope my comments to that post weren't taken as bashing. I have respect for the opinions you have offerred. To make up for my bashing thoughts, I will offer you praise here. It is important to keep in mind that every EMS system is unique. I am only familiar with the systems I have worked...

    which school to go to?

Well, I gave you the option about rooming already. Honestly, you can possibly come up with some crazy scheme for a "medic class party/study pad" and convince people to chip in. Large studio, 30 ppl split (get them signed on b4 they start dropping!). Let me stop... lack of sleep last...

    which school to go to?

Ok, now you have one more. And if this "being close to 9/11" sensation is important... well, I pissed in BMCC's toilet on 9/12. So, I hope your decision got easier! Instead of RCC v SV...... College Path: Pros: More financial aid available for undergraduate studies, use of all...

    which school to go to?

You can also get a per-diem job at a hospital in NYC as an EMT if you simply desire the "NYC EMS experience." If that is your burning desire, your RCC instructor should have the contacts to arrange "observer tours" or advise you who to contact. As far as medic classes: The CIC makes the...

    which school to go to?

#1 You are probably right. SVCMC is a merger betweeen the SV and the CMC part of it. Both had their own academic programs for nursing, PA, medic, etc. From what I understood... both sides fought against merging the academic programs. #2 Sorry, I can't make choices easier. Use common...

    which school to go to?

This is what I gather from your post: You realize that Rockland makes sense for many reasons, but you seem to want someone to convince you to choose St. Vincent's. I sent you more info by PM. Commuting to NYC: Definitely expensive. If class is in evening then you may be able to park on...

What type call is the hardest on you (mentally or physically)

I had a call where a patient died during the time she was in my care. I don't want to get into details, just in case there are any liability issues that haven't been settled yet. Basically, ther may have been some serious errors made during the management of this patient. And by that, I...
