    Stipends/pay for volly service

Every organization is different. Often if an organization can't get enough help, they consider adding pay to incentivize members. The typical volunteer organization has a more difficult time covering calls when its members are working at their paying jobs. If most of these are 9-5 jobs then...

Did i mess up will.i get fired

Sure, but the way the protocols are written, you would be doing something wrong. It would be nice if they allowed you to use some common sense. Could be. Don't mistake my statement for deferring to the protocol rather than using my head. My point is that its written poorly and in such a way...

Did i mess up will.i get fired

Just a point of interest - after reading this thread and seeing the vehement opposition to ASA for a patient on blood thinners, I couldn't remember that being a contraindication in my state. I checked the MA protocols on ASA and found that the only contraindication listed is an active GI bleed...

1990 mccoy miller ambulance, ford e350

Interesting. At this point I would try to figure out which side of the battery terminals is being disconnected by the battery switch. There may be some wiring which the insulation has worn through and is causing current leakage. This could also be caused by severe corrosion connecting...

1990 mccoy miller ambulance, ford e350

My service has a 2003 McCoy Miller on an E350 chassis. The "battery switch" on the vehicle only switches the accessories that were added to the chassis when it was built into an ambulance (emergency lights, radio, module (box) electrical systems). All of the vehicle systems and non-emergency...

    Questions for volunteers

I volunteer for my local fire department, which also operates a BLS ambulance. We serve a 35 square mile area with about 950 people in it. We have no schedules or on call hours. If there is a call and you are in town and able, you respond to it. If not, you don't. If there are not enough...

Flag downs with PT on board?

Depends on your protocols. It has changed in MA a few times, but currently you can stop at an incident while already transporting a patient as long as: 1. The patient you are transporting is stable 2. An EMT stays with the patient in the back of the rig.

Ambulance use of audio recording for documentation

In addition to the HIPAA issues that have already been discussed, you would also need to check the laws in your state relating to audio recording. It may be illegal to record someone without their knowledge, necessitating posting signs and informing people verbally.

Why are there so many skills in the EMT-B Textbook?

Different areas may allow EMTs to perform different skills. I worked briefly with some EMTs who were allowed to start IVs and give at least saline and LR.

    Longest time without a call?

My rural, fire based service has gone somewhere between 3 and 4 weeks without a single call, fire or medical.

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

I am happy to report that Physio Control has replaced the Lifepak CR Plus AED that I had an issue with. This was much appreciated by both myself and the local Boy Scout council. Special thanks to Mike Hooper for his help through the process.

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

The device in question has a date of 2006 on the back. You mentioned a warranty period and after looking at the Physio Control website, it states that these units have an 8 year warranty. I was not aware of this and after talking to customer support I did not get the impression that there...

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

I kind of like the Zoll AED plus units. They take 10 CR123 lithium batteries, which can be had for $2 each when ordered online. My fire dept has 3. Never needed to get them serviced so I don't know if they do or not.

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

I believe when I started, all three indicators were showing (battery, alert, and needs service). After putting in the charge-pak and waiting a few days (necessary for the charge pak to charge the internal battery), both the battery and alert indicators are not showing, just the service...

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

Was that my thread from a few days ago? I've tried everything I could think of, and I'm an Electrical Test Engineer by trade. I'm just trying to give it due diligence before telling the scout office they need to spend $1-2k on a new unit. Also on my mind is that they will ask me to recommend...

    Lifepak CR Plus needs service

Hi, I have a Lifepak CR Plus AED which is indicating that it needs service, after replacing the charge-pak. I believe all of the indicators on the panel were visible before the charge-pak was replaced, which I believed may be due to the battery being completely dead. After installing the new...

    Failed Medtronic CR Plus AED

I was asked to get new batteries and pads for a Medtronic Lifepak CR Plus AED, owned by the local boy scout office. Doing some research, I found that the units have an internal and unaccessable battery, and replaceable charge-paks that are used to charge the internal battery. I bought new pads...
