Alberta to BC PCP Licensing Help (Canada)

Hi all, Looking for some BC PCPs to help me out. I'm a PCP in Alberta, but I'm going to be moving to BC in the next couple months and am starting to work on transferring my license. I'm aware that BC is going to place some restrictions on my license due to differences in scope of practice, and...

To whomever complains about their registration exam fees, I shall point to the $747 fee my licensing authority charges (on top of the $425 in annual dues), laugh, and then tell them to stop complaining post haste.

    pericardiocentsis

The problem is that in a normal medical field you can make that a reality. You have specialists that focus on a few types of procedures, so the volumes allow them to remain proficient. You need heart surgery? You go to a cardiologist. You need respiratory support? You see a respiratory...

    pericardiocentsis

I know pericardiocentesis is in the scope for Paramedics here in Alberta, but I don't think its in the protocols for the primary EMS provider, which means it would likely be something that you would want to consult with medical control about. I agree it is a bit of a Hail Mary, but if you're...

Alabama Ambulance Service Requires Helmets for Employees

Yes, because as a patient I am going to be super comforted by my EMS team's driving skills when they show up in helmets. Plus, wasn't there talk of trying to gain respect for the profession? For some reason I can't see how showing up to a chest pain call in a helmet is really going to help...

Nitronox. Why isn't it used anymore?

Single cylinder here too. Invert it a few times, hook up the mask, and away you go. It's also in our BLS scope here, which means EMTs can not have morphine but still have a pain management protocol.

What do you call a guy with no legs and no arms on your front deck? Matt. On the wall? Art. In your mailbox? Bill. Who is the girl with one leg shorter than the other? Eileen. Yes, I'm going to hell.

stripping an IV Vs. Establish IV

I haven't heard either term, I've always just said 'prepping' the line. I also would prefer to do it myself unless absolutely necessary. I'm rather particular about how I like things laid out and prepared. It's not like it takes very long...

Who has the highest paid Paramedics?

Rig work in Alberta. I've heard of medics making $1000.... a day. No, that's not a typo.

Do prescription drugs disqualify you from being an EMT?

I would assume most employers would be more interested in WHY you're taking the drugs rather than the drugs themselves.
