Honestly, the most critical thing is time management. Time for studying, clincicals, and prep. Work. You'll get little time for play. So, just be prepared to honestly sacrifice the next 10-12 months of some your most enjoyed freedoms. Just know when it's time to say no to going out to have a...
Cover and dress the wound first. During Medic practicals, if it was lets say an open femur fx, you obviously can't splint that. Place a gloved hand over it to provide pressure, then bandage. You still need to splint the injury because of susprected fracture. Aircast or air splint. As the bascis...
Yeah our instructor told us to memorize that...as well as GCS, APGAR, Rule of 9's, etc.
I had at least one of PBF, GCS calc, APGAR calc, Rule of 9's, and also had questions about pedi bolus infusion calculations. A lot of the other people in my class had nothing like those. Luckily, I passed...
I thought Kaplans was garbage. I used (for basic) Success! For the EMT. It was great.
Through medic school I used Barrons and JB learning. Great study tools for that area, not sure about basic.
Good luck!
Through our medic class we were allowed to take the written before our practicals as soon as we got our ATT.
Study everything you've learned. Especially ABC's and Operations. Read EVERY question completely along with EVERY answer. A lot of times you can throw two of the answers out. I used...
The biggest thing to know about this test is that it's adaptive. Some people just have trouble with it because it's a different way of test taking and it's difficult to judge how you're doing. I failed Basic twice before finally passing. I just passed Medic on the first try. YOU CAN DO THIS...
I passed @ question 123 for Basic. In our medic class so far everyone is passing between 60-80. 2 guys went to 150 with one passing and one failing. Honestly I've been told numerous times that your test might be the one where you might pass it early on, but you keep answering questions based on...
Phew...all done and passed! Unfortunately clinicals were supposed to start @ 8 but didn't start until after 10am. Pretty unorganized but hey almost everyone in the class passed them. We were out by 5pm EST...not too bad considering there were 50+ people there. Thanks for the support! Gotta date...
I would try to get at least a year as a basic under your belt. A guy from our medic class had just passed his basic when he jumped into our medic program when it started in september. I mean he literally had his basic card for maybe 3 months? He has struggled the whole way through. BUT...he did...
I just study an pearls you might have about assessment. Remember that ABC's come first. If you find a patient with a bleed, fix the bleed.
When I went through basic I used the Success! for the EMT. There were questions on the basic exam literally word for word from the book.
Good luck!!
Hey all just wanted to let everyone know that our class here in Ohio is taking our practicals this saturday. Some other guys have told me that some of the proctors are real sticklers and some guide you through. Honestly I just want to get it over with.
Our class is 15 students and they...
A guy from my class went all the way to 150 and failed...
So far we've had 3 guys pass from out class of 15. Not everyone has taken it yet.
So far we've had a guy go to 75 and pass, and 2 guys get into the 80's and pass.
I take mine this coming tuesday @ 12 pm.
From what I've heard...
When's it's just you and your partner waiting for the next E.Co it's a little complicated. However, the biggest problem we run into is "off chest" time. We don't carry our "rib breaker" anymore.
Couldn't agree more! Now as a class, and even our instructor, we all went through everything and really the Vagus nerve was the only thing that did make sense. Other than a gag reflex lol! So we're all still searching for the correct (answer).
So my class is preparing for the dreaded NR! We have mountains of study guides. Some of these guides are based off of questions that other classes encountered on the test. Not to be sneaky, but here it is:
What's the nerve that is stimulated by intubation?
Now, all of us immediately...
