As Jambi said it is an expensive program and will work out to be about 43 grand. As for the credibility of this degree Loma Linda University is a very credible institution. The program is taught by educated professionals from many areas of healthcare. Now, will this degree count for much? As...
Also, here in California 2 points or more is a deal breaker at most reputable companies and anything over 2 points will usually keep you from getting a job at any company unless you are hired as an attendant only. Insurance is too expensive for companies to take a chance on a bad driver when...
Leirsyn,
If you are hoping to work in southern California as an EMT then you will be fine if you have 1 point or less. Assuming your accident was 1 point then you should have little issues with your driving record. The problem you may encounter is that some companies will hire only 21 year...
I know its tough to get in at AMR, but they are at least hiring every now and then. Based on the information from everyone here it seems like morongo basin rarely hires.
Thanks guys for all the good info. I also saw that post about reserving and got a little curious. I had a friend who did a medic internship there and said it was very laid back and would be a great place to work while going to school. I didn't know it was so difficult to get a job there. I...
Not sure if this is completely accurate...
San Diego County- AMR, Rural metro
Orange County- ALS 911 is only done by fire depts
San Bernardino-Morongo Basin, AMR, Desert, Baker EMS
Riverside County-AMR
LA County-ALS is mostly done by fire departments, if ALS privates are responding to 911...
5-6 rigs dedicated to 911 in Santa Monica. All of which are 24 hour shifts. They are not completely dedicated as I have heard from guys and gals on the 911 cars that they get the occasional IFT.
Imacho,
I think the chip some these fire medics have is more to do with the fact that they are "better" because they work for the Fire dept. and less of a P card/level of training issue. There are a bunch of medics out here working as Basics for 911 privates.
Nice job rancho, I applaud your decision to pursue what you believe is right. I personally have not seen or heard of shortages of those drugs and I geographically close to you. I think going to ICEMA would have been detrimental to your job due to the relationship they have with your employer.
SoCal,
The OP asked a question. Most people here would not hesitate to say CARE all the way. By asking the question it was fairly obvious he had very little information about the difference between these two very different companies. MY goal was to help him understand a little about each...
SoCal,
It does not make me feel better to post a response to your rude and condescending comments. Our goal here is to help the original poster and give the most accurate and helpful information possible. You have a great day.
Socal,
I don't hide under a rock. I have worked in the county you do for much longer than you have and I have a much better understanding of EMS and providers in the county than you do. You simply made a statement:
"Care in a heartbeat. Tons of 911. Awesome equipment. Awesome...
I have to agree with Adam. He stated that if a Union is necessary than the company sucks. Employees would not get together and vote in a union if everything was wonderful at the workplace. If the company is run well and treats employees well then it is highly unlikely that a union is...
Socal,
PRN is not a tiny company, it is actually large...
erod,
You will have many great opportunities at Care. 911 shifts, CCT, and lots of shifts to fill in. The company that bought care is a good company with a good reputation. They will pursue more contracts and their should be job...
Typical medium sized LA based company with a lot of dialysis. Heard good and bad things but if you are looking for experience then it is a start. They had day and 24 hour shifts but I'm not sure if that has changed.
Also, CaWolf86 is right. You will not earn much. These IFT companies don't really care about experience. They are looking for bodies to run a bunch of dialysis calls and discharges.
Like others said, the hospital is the way to go. However, ER tech jobs are are very competitive. There are tons of IFT companies in the valley. Google, phonebook, craigslist, and indeed.com will help you find them.
The California Deparment of motor vehicles has a point system. 1 point for speading, running stop signs and red lights and basic moving violations. you get 2 points for reckless driving and more serious things.
You need to go to the DMV. They will not always pull off the points from your...
