Traffic? Denver doesn't have traffic. Houston has traffic, denver has a little congestion. I had to get out of Texas for a while. Texas politics are wearing me out. I'm trying to find a place to volunteer near Denver but they don't seem to be hurting for paramedics at the two places I've checked. I might have to take a paid position with a special event outfit or the like. If anyone has any ideas on a place I can work or volunteer part time do share.

Check some of the smaller departments near the springs or see if you can volunteer with some of the hybrid ems agencies up north of you. I cant remember names real well this second but when i wake up more I'll see what i can remember

EDIT: I found this link. It's from the Denver Metro MEdical Directors website. It's a list of all the EMS agencies covered by metro protocols. Might be a good starting point

Highland Rescue in Golden might be a good place to look, really cool area.

I know a handful of people who applied to volunteer there, then promptly quit. I guess their competency is questionable at best.

But it might be a good way to get your foot in the door. Medics leave there frequently so they are always looking for medics. And evergreen is very pretty.

I comtacted highland and I'll probably do a ride out wirh them in a few weeks. I'm in a little bit of culture shock here because the services are so tiny and the call volumes are so low. I was very spoiled with CCEMS in Houston. It is beautiful here.

I might just suck it up and take a part time job or even look into teaching ACLS. I'd love to precept basics but from the research I've done preceptor jobs are tough to get.

Do you only want to volunteer or would you consider PRN employment? Also, are you a medic or EMT and how far would you be willing to drive?

Boulder rural is a career department that also takes volunteers.

Hygiene and lions are volunteer and get some good roll overs.

From personal experience- I would stay far away from highlands.

Doesn't Highlands only run a few hundred calls a year anyway? If I wanted to sit around somewhere for free and not run calls I might as well do it at my house with Netflix and a beer

Highlands will get dispatched for an auto accident, then tell dispatch "we are going to wait until PD gets on scene. Call us back if there's any injuries and we will come down"

I believe he's a paramedic.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, we are pretty much dead stop 7 am - noon and then dead stop again at 3 pm - 8 pm. I've noticed that we've had traffic during the weekend too now. :[

Dunno what Evergreen Fire has for residency requirements but it's a cool place with a very large volunteer department.

As for precepting basics, if you mean students, that's often no big deal. Neither of my three places have any requirements whatsoever for EMT students.

I'd be willing to do PRN for standby events ect. As for driving I'd rather stay within an hour of so of denver.

I'm a paramedic. I'm not worried about pay. I'm more worried about a good work envioronment and keeping my skills current.
