    NMEMT I 85 and I 99

can you elaborate any more on the transition? just started the medic path recently and have been wondering about the rumors of emt-i going away. i figured you would either go back to basic or maybe take a bridge course to medic?

    NMEMT I 85 and I 99

99 has some meds and a few more procedures and is a bit longer in hours. in ohio you take the class to the 99 level but you are tested on the 85 stuff... just something to keep in mind.

    In Medic school.

is anybody recording the classroom sessions? thinking about doing it so that i can review the lecture also. we currently use the jblearning setup and i am finding it pretty hard to deal with. the paramedic interaction portion of it at least. anyone have reccomendations? 2630

    In Medic school.

i can second the flash cards. i use them and take them everywhere i go. started with a few, and every couple of weeks add another one or two until done. 2630

    In Medic school.

the drug guide from brady is a good one to have. i have used it a ton and it is fairly easy to navigate. i just started back to medic school (for the second time) a few weeks ago myself. i had a book for cardiology that was along the lines of "cardiology for dummies" and it was a great addition...

    Flail chest w/ nemothorax

check your protocols! for me a basic cannot place an airway (ett) for anyone unless they are confirmed to be not breathing. i had a run a few weeks ago where my pt was crushed between a small truck and the back wall of a garage. she had bilateral flail segments with diminished sounds on the...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

no harm no foul. i was just afraid of where the post was headed, and did not want to go down the path that has been traveled so much. a few of the comments among ours indicate to me that this maybe a very touchy subject! at least for a few more weeks... my real job (a commercial aircraft...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

my question was simple. medic417... tell me about the area in which you run and NOTHING else. i am not here to start anything. i am trying to diversify my knowledge here and this is what i get. at no point am i trying to be an *** to anybody and i would like the courtesy of the same toward me...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

not a defensive emotional response by any means. i chose to leave it as i did because i was not wanting to turn this into a bashing of one level of service over another, and i will do my best to keep that from happening. all levels of service have a spot in the food chain, and as much as i want...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

medic417. since i am new to the board can i ask a few quick questions? i see your info page lists you as 'professional ems', can you enlighten me as to what kind? private? 911? give some stats on run volume and population and so on? and just curious as to why it sounds like you are against...

    Volunteer squads- minimum participation rules?

i agree that drill time is important. out largest issue is that we are a 100% volly department that has less then 20 emt's who all work various hours. we are trying out some daytime training to give our members the option of what fits their individual scehdule. 2630
